Zack Arias’ Photo 101 Workshop

In mid-July, I drove down to Atlanta to FINALLY meet one of my favorite photographers, Zack Arias. If you know me and have been following my blog posts, you know i’m a HUGE fan, so needless to say, I was *quite* excited.
Zack’s 3-day Photo 101 workshop covered everything from the basics of photography, workflow, making beautiful portraits with natural light, to post-production, to marketing and getting your name out there, and even a real-world scenario, where we had to photograph a family of 7 outdoors.
Zack is just as wonderful in person as he is on his One Light DVD and as he comes across on his blog, www.zarias.com
This guy is honest, he is real and down to earth. His wife, Meg, is delightful and Erik just freakin’ rocks.
Oh, did i mention Hawke is freaking adorable? What a great baby!
As far as photos, here are a few from the workshop. These first 2 are exercises in taking portraits using natural light.
after watching Zack take portraits of models, I decided to take matters into my own hands and photograph the photographer – alas, here is a portrait I took of Zack.
and here is Erik. I feel that every time I saw him through the course of the workshop, he was drinking coffee…..so here is my portrait of Erik…
and last, but not least, 2 abstract images I took in and around Zack’s studio…

These are great Catalina! I love the ones of Zack and Erik. I’m now wishing I would have taken some of them myself!

It was great meeting you at the workshop. Really liked the Zack & Erik shots.
I posted my recap of the workshop here, http://davemphotography.blogspot.com a little bit more in-depth, so it also took me several weeks to post. I also agree, Zack and everyone at the studio were fantastic.

Love the post – and the shots! Have Zack and Erik seen their portraits? Starbucks should use the one of Erik in their marketing collateral – it’s fabulous!
It was such an amazing weekend and a great experience, being surrounded by such great people and learning so, so much. Enjoyed meeting you and hope I can see you next month in Charlotte!

Hi, I was just Googling for information about Zack’s Photo 101 workshop and found your site. Glad to hear how great an experience it was. I was just recently reminded of it and thought I’d look into it and see about planning to attend. Seeing your pictures though, it’s so hard to picture myself in the company of such cool people!
