Hola Hi music video, Aire de Primavera

This year, we’ve been working closely with the fabulous duo, Paul and Angie, of the Florida-based band, Hola Hi.

We did a beach photo shoot and used those images for their CD cover art, designed by Juan, and included some of those same images in a new stop-motion video we created for their song, Aire de Primavera.

This video was a stop-motion piece created by Juan, artist Shantell Martin, editor Rafael Salazar Moreno and yours truly.

It’s a story of a lonely heart, whose life is finally turned around when it meets and falls in love with that special someone.

Remember the photos of Hola Hi, the fabulous dynamic duo?

Earlier this week, they made their debut with the album, Primavera, now available on iTunes and CD Baby.

The album art for Primavera is a result of Juan’s art direction, design and my imagery. One cool collaboration.

Anna + The Cello

We recently had the pleasure to watch our friend and illustrator Shantell Martin project her awesome illustrations onto cellist extraordinaire Anna Callner at a photography studio’s cyc wall.

Now I have seen Shantell perform plenty of times in the year we’ve known each other, and I must admit that this was one of my all time favorite shows. There is something about the cello, the way Anna plays so passionately classical and contemporary music and Shantell’s imagery on and around Anna that blew me away.

On a recent trip to relax and spend some time with parents down in Florida, we had a chance to meet up with and photograph Paul + Angie of the band Hola Hi.

We are in the middle of shooting a music video for this terrific duo, as well as creating collaterals such as posters, images for their CD and website.

These are just a taste of what’s to come!

I love my latest photography tool, my intervalometer. I can set a camera on sticks, set my timer to take a determined number of frames every few seconds//minutes//etc and make a stop-motion type video!

As mentioned in my most recent post, my husband and I are working our butts off on this kickstarter campaign to raise funds to complete a documentary on Los Amigos Invisibles. With kickstarter, it’s ALL OR NOTHING. If we don’t meet our goal of $30,000 by Sunday, February 20th, we don’t get ANY funding AT ALL. To date, we have over 100 backers and $5,000 – we MUST MAKE IT TO $30,000!

So, we made a thank you video for all of our backers to date, and here is what it looks like – shot with 5DMKii + intervalometer + 20″ of snow in Sheep’s Meadow, Central Park, NY

Where do I start?!

Six years ago, my husband, Juan, along with his brother Herman and friend Tony, formed La Rua, one of Charlotte’s very first Latin Rock bands.

After seeing such great reaction from both Latinos and Anglos, Juan, Herman and Tony created Carlotan Rock, a Latin Rock festival to celebrate and showcase other local Latin bands who were helping to grow the Rock en Espanol movement in the Carolinas. About 3 years ago, La Rua disbanded but they reunited for a special set during Carlotan Rock 2009.

Now, six years later, Carlotan Rock has attracted a plethora of local, regional and international Latin rock bands as well as local, regional and international press.

Welcome to the new Catalina Photography!

It is with the utmost pleasure that I welcome you to the new Catalina Photography website! A big shout out goes out to my husband, Juan and my brother-in-law, Herman, for making this awesome site come together.

As a bridge from my old blog to this new one, I want to share with you 3 images that Herman took of Juan and I on a recent trip to see Herman in Washington, DC.

These images are special to me because they show a fun and goofy side to my husband and I, and they are a great reminder to live life and have fun – life is too short!

I look forward to this new chapter in my photography career, and hope you join along for the ride and become an active participant in my blog.
